RCA Inspiration announced that Joseph Burney, who previously served as the label’s Senior Director of A&R, has been promoted to Vice President of A&R. Burney will report to Geo Bivins, General Manager of RCA Inspiration and continue to be based in New York. In his new role, Burney will lead the department in identifying and signing new artists in gospel music.

“Joseph has spent his entire career working in gospel music and has a wealth of experience—not to mention a sincere passion for the genre, strong industry relationships and an unparalleled work ethic,” said Bivins. “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this promotion and we are thrilled to recognize his hard work and success.”

In his previous role, Burney acted as executive A&R on a myriad of CD and DVD releases that have received RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications such as Live In London by Donnie McClurkin, Thirsty by Marvin Sapp and Mary Mary, the self-titled album by the Grammy Award winning female duo. Additional highlights of his career include working alongside gospel greats Richard Smallwood, John P. Kee, Hezekiah Walker, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Tye Tribbett to name a few.

“Gospel is the music of light and life—as a student of the genre, I am gladly consumed,” says Burney. “It is a tremendous honor to remain a curator of the sound on RCA Inspiration under the helm of Geo Bivins. I am grateful to work with a highly talented roster of artists and dedicated music executives like Cheryl Marks, Jeff Grant and the entire RCA Inspiration team. Every day is a redeeming experience.”

A veteran with nearly two decades of A&R experience, Joseph Burney started his career as an intern at then Verity Records. During the process of time and proving he received several promotions and made a name for himself as a well-respected A&R in gospel music. Joseph Burney holds a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University.
